New York — New York Giants linebacker Joe Thomas could make his debut in a full-contact practice on Thursday when the team is in Buffalo for the Bills-Steelers game.
Thomas is recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered during a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.
The Jets plan to use him in a limited role.
The team is not planning to give Thomas a full practice on Wednesday, a source said.
Thomas, a three years veteran who was released by the Broncos after three seasons, has had a couple of minor injuries in his short career, including a concussion suffered in October 2013 that sidelined him for three months.
The 31-year-old linebacker has also played in eight games over the last two seasons, starting 13 and notching nine tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and two pass deflections.
The Giants are planning to have a full roster by the time the season starts.
