Bicycles are often considered as a safe, fun and healthy mode of transport, but there is no guarantee they will protect against head injuries in the event of an accident.
A new report from the Israeli Association for the Protection of Bicyclists (IAPB) says there is not enough data to provide a clear answer to this question.
The report, which was prepared for the IAPB by the Israeli Insurance Institute (III), also recommends helmets that offer more protection from head injuries, such as the ones offered by bicycle companies, or more advanced designs.
The IAPA is part of the Bicycle Safety Coalition, a coalition of bicycle companies and advocacy groups that promotes bicycle safety and education.
The group said its report, entitled “Recommendations for Bicycle Helmet Research, Testing and Development,” was released in conjunction with the annual Bicycle Safety Conference.
It was also the third report the group has released since 2015, when it called for more research into bicycle helmets, and urged the country to make bicycle safety more effective.
According to the report, the most effective helmets include one with a “light weight” and “low-impact” design.
It also recommends using the same materials as helmets, with helmets made from softer materials that can absorb shocks and provide greater protection.
A helmet that offers the least protection is one with “a light weight” that offers “little protection,” said IAPBs’ chief medical officer Dr. Arik Gertner.
It’s important to have the right materials, the right design, and the right kind of helmet, he added.
“If we’re going to improve bicycle safety, we have to get more data on the helmets, which is not possible without helmet manufacturers testing them,” he said.
“The problem is, the helmets are already out there, and there is nothing we can do to make them safer.”
The IIAB, which has been lobbying Israel to promote bicycle safety for years, said the report is “one of the most comprehensive and comprehensive studies we have on the topic of bicycle helmets in Israel.”
“It’s a major breakthrough, which shows that helmets are not only a necessary component of bicycle safety in Israel, but that they also have the potential to be a critical part of preventing a fatal bicycle accident,” said a statement from the group.
According a 2015 report from UBS Global Health, helmets are an important component of bike safety.
It noted that in Israel it takes just 1.3 seconds to install and remove a bicycle helmet.
A recent study from the United States’ National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimated that only 4 percent of Americans wear a helmet, with nearly 90 percent of people still not wearing one.
The NIOSH said that most Americans use helmets only during a high-speed collision, in which they would be most likely to be hit.
The Institute for Transportation and Automation, which runs the Institute for Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety, said it does not recommend that helmets be used for riding at speeds greater than 50 km/h, and recommended that people be wearing helmets at moderate speeds.
The Israeli government has made helmets mandatory in the country, but it has not yet implemented the recommendations in the report.
The head injury data from IAPs report was collected from the ICSB, the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority and the Israeli Transport Ministry.
It has not been released to the public.
